CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Officials for the National Youth Science Camp, held each summer in Pocahontas County, have issued a media alert detailing ‘fly-in’ day for the delegates. 
NYSC Public Information Coordinator Erin Beck released the following information:
WHO: 107 highly-accomplished recent high school graduates from around the county and other areas of the world, who’ve gone through a highly competitive selection process to participate in this year’s National Youth Science Camp in Pocahontas County. These future STEM leaders are selected on merit, based on their achievements, with the program provided to them at no cost, including travel.
WHAT: Delegates will fly in to Yeager Airport in Charleston before spending four weeks preparing for futures in STEM fields at the National Youth Science Camp at Camp Pocahontas. The camp, located in the Monongahela Forest near Green Bank, West Virginia, provides four weeks of both physical and mental challenges, including preparation for in-demand STEM careers and outdoor adventure.
The National Youth Science Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a mission to honor, sustain and encourage youth interest in science education and thoughtful scientific careers, plans, conducts and fundraises for the National Youth Science Camp, which began in 1963 as an initiative of West Virginia’s Centennial Celebration.
WHEN/WHERE: Delegates will arrive at Yeager Airport in Charleston throughout the day Wednesday, June 27, from approx. 9 am- 11:30 pm. Members of the media, including reporters, photographers and videographers, are invited.
One delegate from West Virginia flies in at 12:12 pm.
WHY: Delegates of years past have said camp is one of their most formative, meaningful life experiences, and the bonds they formed became lifelong friendships. They also serve as ambassadors for West Virginia and become part of a robust professional network of alumni.
“We all seek to change the world and are full of amazing ideas that we can collaborate on,” said Samantha Hopkins, a 2017 delegate from Virginia. “Meeting these people makes me realize how essential collaboration and communicating science is for my future success.”
Beck said: “Fly-in day is a chance to capture delegates meeting for the first time. I would also be willing to help arrange contacts with some of the same delegates later, perhaps on fly-out day at Yeager on July 21, if you’d like to talk to them about how it went/ get photos/video of their goodbyes. If you’d like to attend, please contact me with your availability. I will help arrange interviews and assist in planning. “
