WHEELING, W.Va. — There currently are more than 3,300 completed natural gas wells in West Virginia, according to data from the West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey.
More than 900 of those completed wells are in the Northern Panhandle, from Tyler to Hancock counties.
Nearly 700 additional Northern Panhandle wells already have been permitted for drilling. Statewide, there are 1,600 permitted wells.
