CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Gov, Patrick Morrisey announced Thursday that more than $16.3 million in West Virginia Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grants have been awarded to 83 projects across the state.
The funds, totaling $16,327,849, are provided by the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime and administered by the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services, Justice and Community Services Section.
VOCA grants support direct services for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and other crimes. Services include counseling, personal advocacy, court accompaniment, client transportation, and assistance with victim compensation claims.
“West Virginia is committed to ensuring victims of crime are treated with the dignity, respect, and care they deserve,” Morrisey said. “These VOCA funds will aid the many organizations who play a critical, yet often unseen role in the criminal justice system.”
