FAIRMONT — A collision between two pieces of machinery injured three miners Wednesday morning at the Loveridge No. 22 coal mine, at the Johnny Cake Mine Portal in Fairview.
EMS took two of the three miners to WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. The hospital has not released details about their condition. So far, one of the miners has been released from the hospital.
The Hundred Volunteer Fire Department, Marion County Rescue Squad and Hundred EMS were at the scene. American Consolidated Natural Resources Inc, which operates the mine, has not yet made a public statement. The company also operates the Metz Portal, Miracle Run Portal and Sugar Run Preparation Portal.
The mine accident comes less than a week after mine foreman Steve Lipscomb’s body was pulled from the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County. On Thursday, the United Mine Workers of America said a suspected communications issue contributed to the accident.
Federal, state and local authorities are conducting a detailed investigation.
