beckley – A new owner of a local hospital adjoining the property where a behavioral health center stands will continue its lease agreement for two years, Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced when the hospital’s sale was finalized this last weekend.
The governor announced that the sale of West Virginia’s four state-owned long-term care facilities had been finalized with Marx Development Group (MDG) now taking over ownership and MDG subsidiary Majestic Care taking over operations.
One of the four facilities is the Jackie Withrow Hospital in Beckley.
The $60 million sale also includes the Hopemont Hospital, John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center and Lakin Hospital. Marx Development Group has committed an additional $80 million to make major investments in West Virginia by building at least three new long-term care facilities, using local labor and materials wherever possible, according to a press release issued Saturday from the governor’s office.
“This marks an important milestone in our work to strengthen healthcare services and modernize the state’s operations,” Morrisey said. “West Virginia patients can look forward to enhanced care, modernized facilities, and a commitment to quality care. This is another step forward in improving care outcomes for our patients while protecting taxpayer dollars.”
