ATHENS, W.Va. — Homecoming season is upon us at The Campus Beautiful, and we invite all Mountain Lions to come Back to the Mountains, Back to the Memories. Festivities officially kick off Thursday, Oct. 9, with the annual Homecoming Parade, on Vermillion Street, beginning at 6 p.m., led by retired Ninth Circuit Judge John Frazier ’67. The Bonfire and Celebration in the Valley will follow at 7 p.m., and a full weekend of fun will roll all through the weekend, including:
- Oct. 10: CU After Hours presented by the Concord University Alumni Association, Inc., 5-7 p.m., on the patio of University Point, including food, drinks, and fellowship with alumni. The 2025 Alumni Awards will be presented, along with live music by Jonah Carden, and a cash bar. The event is free to attend, but guests must RSVP.
o LipSync: 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
o Dance to follow the LipSync competition in the Ballroom.
- Oct. 11: Class of 1975 50-year reunion begins at 9 a.m. in the Erickson Alumni Lounge at University Point. Alumni will reconnect and visit with Advancement team and CU President Bethany Meighen. RSVP.
o Athletic Hall of Fame induction: 9 a.m. in the Ballroom. Inductees include former football head coach Garin Justice, longtime CU athletic department secretary Anita Conner, and athletes Chad Frazier, Jeremiah Johnson, Calvinaugh Jones, Lauren Lewis Poe, Jake Lilly, and Aaron Miller.
o Keg & Eggs: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: This Homecoming favorite returns to University Point for a lively morning of music by Alabaster Boxer’s Nick Durm, omelets, and drinks with fellow alumni. The event is free, but guests must RSVP.
o Tri Sigma Alumnae Tea at the Lodge: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event will also include a tailgate with food and drink. Be sure to bring your own camp chair.
o CU Mountain Lions v. West Virginia State Yellow Jackets: 2 p.m. at Callaghan Stadium.
- Oct. 12: Tri Sigma 100th Celebration Brunch: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cap off the Homecoming weekend with a celebratory brunch to commemorate Alpha Alpha chapter’s history and promising future. Look forward to snapshots captured throughout the years, Sigma-sation recognition, and a silent auction. These events will take place in the Ballroom, and an RSVP is required. - Oct. 18: Join our Campus Recreation Office and Office of Veteran Services for the Salute to Service 5K. The 5K will start at the Jean and Jerry L. Beasley Student Center and proceed throughout Athens, WV! Day of Event Registration Opens at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. Cost to register is $15.
- Oct. 21: Join Bonner Scholars in the Jean and Jerry L. Beasley Student Center ground floor lobby for an afternoon as you “Pink Your Pumpkin” for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn important information about breast health, then get creative by decorating pumpkins with pink paint and ribbons to honor survivors and support those affected. - Oct. 21: Trunk or Treat: Join us in the Sarvay Parking Lot, 5-7 p.m., for Trunk or Treat. Come see all the different University departments and organizations dressed up to give out candy in the spirit of the Halloween season.
- Oct. 28: Sober Halloween: Collegiate Recovery presents Sober Halloween for a night filled with food, games, painting, and fun in the CU Ballroom, 6-9 p.m.
- Oct. 30: Ghost Hunters: Do you like scary ghost stories or learning about ghosts? Stop by the Ballroom at 7 p.m. for Ghost Hunters with Ross Allison. Allison has well over 20 years of experience investigating the paranormal and 10 years running a ghost-hunting group. He travels internationally to investigate paranormal activity, collect ghost stories, and research cemeteries.
- Oct. 31: CU Choirs Fall Concert: The Collegiate Singers, ConChords, and Voice students will present their fall concert in the Main Theater of the Alexander Fine Arts Center, 7-9 p.m.
