October 2 breast cancer event at Belington Medical Clinic will raise awareness about early detection

BELINGTON, W.Va. — Barbour Community Health Association (BCHA) will host its annual Drive-Thru Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Thursday, October 2, at 6 p.m. at the Belington Medical Clinic.

The theme for the 2025 event is “Unmask the Mystery,” reflecting the importance of uncovering the truth about breast cancer through awareness and early detection. The general public and community members are invited to attend, including breast cancer survivors, who will be honored with a special gift during the event.

The fun and safe “drive-thru” format originated during the COVID-19 pandemic and has become a popular annual event. Attendees can receive educational materials, take home goodies, enter to win door prizes, and meet BCHA’s women’s health staff—all while remaining inside their vehicles.

The Drive-Thru Breast Cancer Awareness Night is held annually in October to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which aims to promote screening and reduce the risk of the disease, which affects more than 2 million women worldwide.

The event reinforces BCHA’s commitment to women’s health in Barbour County—not just in October, but all year long.

“This event has always been one of the most meaningful projects of my career,” said Debbie Schonoover, BCHA’s Chief Operating Officer, who plans to retire in December. “Each October, we come together to honor survivors, support families, and remind our community members of the power of early detection.”

“I’m grateful to have witnessed the strength and resilience of this community,” said Schoonover. “I know BCHA will continue to stand beside families in the fight against breast cancer for many years to come.”

Belington Medical Clinic is located at 70 North Sturmer Street in Belington.
