WASHINGTON (WV News) — U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sent a message of support Monday for Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s stance on school vaccines.

Kennedy, who has repeatedly made debunked claims about vaccines and founded the anti-vaccine organization Children’s Health Defense, posted a message on social media in favor of Morrisey’s executive order creating a religious exemption to the state’s school vaccination requirements.

“I stand with @WVGovernor Patrick Morrisey,” Kennedy wrote. “His executive order upholds West Virginians’ religious freedom and parental rights while keeping the state in full compliance with federal law. I urge state legislators to support the governor’s leadership and protect these fundamental rights. At @HHSgov, we will enforce conscience protections and defend every family’s right to make informed health decisions.”

The governor released a statement thanking Kennedy for his support of the “common sense” policy.
