CHARLESTON (WV News) — After more than six months without a State Health Officer, West Virginia officials on Thursday appointed Dr. Mark McDaniel to the role on an acting basis.
The state has been without a health officer since Dr. Matthew Christiansen left in December. Before leaving office, former Gov. Jim Justice said he believed it should be up to his successor, Gov. Patrick Morrisey, to name Christiansen’s replacement.
Health Secretary Dr. Arvin Singh said McDaniel was chosen following a review of several candidates.
