4 WVU Football players sue NCAA

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Four WVU Football players are suing the NCAA after being denied eligibility for the upcoming season.

The complaint, filed on Aug. 1 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, alleges the NCAA wrongly denied Jimmori Robinson, Jeffrey Weimer, Tye Edwards and Justin Harrington the opportunity to play for the WVU football team for the 2025 season.

Prior to transferring to WVU this semester, the athletes attended and played football at non-NCAA institutions, also referred to as junior colleges or jucos. The athletes then transferred to various NCAA institutions, where they utilized redshirts or other exemptions, before transferring to WVU, according to the complaint.

The complaint alleges that with their exemptions, the athletes believed they retained NCAA eligibility for the upcoming season under NCAA rules and a blanket waiver, which was announced in December 2024 to extend eligibility for players who had spent one or more years competing at a non-NCAA institution.
