WASHINGTON (WV News) — It took more than a month after deadly flooding events impacted two West Virginia counties for the White House to approve the state’s applications for Major Disaster and Emergency declarations through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance program.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who helped secure the declarations, said she doesn’t think the holdup is indicative of a new normal for federal assistance.
“I don’t think so,” Capito said when asked if future applications are likely to face similar delays.
“I don’t think this is a slow walk of disaster declarations by any means,” she said. “I thank the administration for moving on this. It looked to me like they wanted to move in a group, because there were three or four others that we declared at the same time, and I have a feeling that might have held us up a little bit.”
