Alleged antisemitic Instagram comments by lawmaker bring call for investigation

CHARLESTON – Alleged antisemitic comments made by a social media account linked to a recently appointed member of the West Virginia House of Delegates have brought on calls for an investigation by a Jewish lawmaker and leader of the state Democratic Party.

In a story posted Wednesday, West Virginia Watch reported an Instagram account with links to Delegate Ian Masters, R-Berkeley, included an antisemitic comment on another Instagram post attacking Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy over the weekend.

“(Portnoy is) not white. He’s a Jew. We never claimed them. That’s why he’s short tiny and weak,” the comment read on an April 12 Instagram post.

According to the West Virginia Watch story, the Instagram account that made the comment – using the handle @NoQuarterMasters – belonged to an Ian T. Masters and included a link to the West Virginia Citizens Defense League, a state-based pro-gun rights group for which Masters served as president for nearly a decade before being appointed to the House of Delegates by Gov. Patrick Morrisey in January.
