CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As senators debated their version of the state budget April 5, Sen. Craig Blair, R-Berkeley, made an observation about the nature of the debate.
“This is political theater dealing with the budget.”
The Senate budget bill, SB 199, passed, 20-14. As it always works, the Senate and House will refuse to accept each other’s budgets and they will go to conference to work out a compromise version.
Gov. Jim Justice proposed a $4.55 billion budget based on revenue of $4.05 billion and a variety of revenue measure, Finance Chairman Mike Hall, R-Putnam, said. The Senate budget is more modest, building on just a few revenue measures, at about $4.1 billion.
