CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Additional West Virginians have died as the result of recent flooding, said Gov. Patrick Morrisey on Tuesday.
The governor confirmed the deaths of Donald and Debbie Griffin of Welch, McDowell County, as well as the death of a McDowell County firefighter.
Another individual is still missing, Morrisey said.
“There are efforts going over with canines to try to locate that individual,” he said.
On Monday evening, Morrisey formally submitted a major disaster declaration to the federal government.
It requests activation of the Individual Assistance Program and the Public Assistance Program for Boone, Cabell, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mercer, McDowell, Mingo, Raleigh, Summers, Wayne and Wyoming counties. It also asks for assistance from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program statewide.
