GRAFTON, W.Va. — It’s time again for residents and guests to keep their eyes out for monsters in the community, as Taylor County Partners in Prevention’s 4th Annual Taylor County Monster Hunt will soon be underway.

West Virginia is steeped in local lore about creatures and beings that are often unexplained, and to help teach the community about the state’s cryptids, the organization is hosting a scavenger hunt centered on beings like the Grafton Monster, Mothman and the Flatwoods Monster, along with some of their well-known buddies.

According to Taylor County Family Resources Executive Director and Partners in Prevention team member Cathy Coontz-Griffith, the Taylor County Monster Hunt officially kicks off this Saturday and will run through Nov. 1.

The hunt, a community-wide scavenger hunt, will have youths and adults traveling throughout the community to find 15 hidden cryptid figures — and for those who find the most monsters, a special prize awaits.

“This event is open to any child in grades 1-12 who would like to take part, as long as they have a trusted adult who will participate with them,” Coontz-Griffith said. “We are also welcoming any adults to compete, as well. All participants will need to be pre-registered before the event, so get signed up today.”
