APPLE GROVE, W.Va. — Nucor Steel West Virginia has announced that Vice President and General Manager John Farris is retiring after 32 years with the company.
“John has been instrumental in Nucor’s incredible growth, and we are grateful for his experience and leadership in getting our West Virginia sheet mill project from concept to construction. We will miss John greatly, but after more than three decades at Nucor, his retirement is well deserved,” the company said in a statement.
Nucor Steel’s new vice president and general manager is Johnny Jacobs. Jacobs began his career with Nucor in 2002 as Controller at their steel plate mill in Hertford County, North Carolina. He, too, has held numerous leadership positions at Nucor.
Most recently, he served as vice president & general manager of Construction at Nucor’s corporate headquarters in Charlotte. Prior to that role, he was vice president & general manager at the company’s new steel plate mill in Brandenburg, Kentucky. Jacobs oversaw that project through construction and start-up.
“That recent experience makes him the ideal person to lead our West Virginia team as we continue to work through the construction phase and then move into starting up operations. Nucor Steel Brandenburg was one of the most successful steel mill startups in Nucor’s history. We are excited to have Johnny in West Virginia, and he is eager to become a member of the Mason County community,” according to Nucor’s release
