BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — The Riley-Vest Post No. 9, American Legion continued an age-old tradition Monday by conducting a Memorial Day service to honor men and women in all branches of the U.S. military who made the supreme sacrifice, and gave their lives in defense of American freedom.

“This is a beautiful day for us to remember our veterans,” Post Commander Brian G. Krabbe said.

Post Chaplain, the Reverend Chuck Hammond, offered the Memorial Day prayer. Cadets of the Montcalm High School Junior ROTC corps under the command of Sgt. First Class Paul Dorsey (U.S. Army Retired) advanced the colors, brought the flag to half-staff and led those assembled for the event in reciting the “Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.” Members of the American Legion Auxiliary place a wreath honoring all fallen warriors.

Past Post Commander A.A. “Lon” Hopkins Jr., made a special presentation early in the program….
