Many Christians mark Ash Wednesday, the traditional start of the season of Lent, by attending services and getting ashes placed on their foreheads. To accommodate busy parishioners, the Rev. Monty Brown of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in downtown Charleston set up a drive-through service, stoking the fires of his curbside grill in Wednesday’s snow. Lent ends after 40 days (not including Sundays) with the celebration of Easter Sunday, which is April 5 this year.
