WVPA to provide membership with media badges

A note from the WVPA:

Recently, a few newspapers have inquired about the WVPA providing endorsed media badges or parking passes for their newsrooms

We’re happy to announce to our membership that the WVPA will now be creating personal media pass credentials to our editors, reporters and photographers upon request and at no charge.

We hope the media passes, once more widely distributed, will become a recognized symbol of the West Virginia newspaper industry and will serve to benefit both our journalists and the communities they cover.
The badges will hang from a WVPA lanyard, which will also be provided, and serve as a clear method of identification when your reporters or photographers are working in the field.
These passes will include the WVPA’s endorsement as well as the reporter’s name, position, publication and — most importantly — his or her photo.
For these passes to be recognized as a respected symbol of the WV newspaper industry, we are asking that the staff member photos provided to us for use on the media badge follow certain guidelines:
1) The photo should be taken against a light, neutral-colored background (white, tan, light blue, grey, etc.).
2) The headshot photo should be framed in a way to include the individual’s shoulders and enough negative space around their heads to be cropped down at the designer’s discretion.
Please refer to the sample badge below for an example of what the photo should look like. Also, we are now offering hanger tags for car mirrors. The hanger tags have the WVPA logo and say MEDIA in bold letters. While we can’t guarantee these parking passes will prevent your reporters from getting towed or ticketed, it is our belief that they can only help the cause.

To request media passes, please send a list of names and corresponding titles, in addition to a recent photo, to bunderwood@wvpress.org .

Please also include the number of parking passes you would like for your newsroom.
