WVPA Sharing: Legislative Lookahead underway in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.VA. — The West Virginia AP Legislative Lookahead got off on schedule today despite snowy roads and cold weather.

The first panel addresses the proposed Fund Future and energy production and taxation in West Virginia. Panelists include WV Senate President Jeff Kessler, West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association  Executive Director Corky DeMarco, West Virginia Center for Budget and Policy Executive Director Ted Boettner and  West Virgina Coal Association President Bill Raney.

Senate President Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall: “I call the Future Fund, ‘The Why Not Fund.’ Do we need spend every penny we get in severance tax?”

WV Coal Assn. President Bill Raney: “We can’t stand an increase in any taxes.” Future Fund concept: “We’re pleased with idea of saving taxes. I agree we should’ve done it years ago.”
