Heavy rains fall on WV flood victims

A heavy rain pours across the flood ravaged areas of West Virginia. Predictions call for three inches and flash flooding.

Today, on Independence Day, thousands of West Virginians sit cold and damp in tents, shelters, their vehicles and their damages homes – most still without power – watching the rain fall and the creeks rise.

Rain, fear and the horrific earthy smell of flood mud overwhelm the senses. The ground beneath their feet again a mix of draining rain and mud.

What few possessions they recovered from the flood – the remains of a now previous life – sit in a downpour, covered with tarps and makeshift shelters.

Looking to the heavens only wets their cheeks. No relief today for flood victims.

Their hope and recovery are washing away on the Fourth of July.
