West Virginia Senator Tarr questions COVID vaccine safety, joins Senate President Blair in opposition of any federal mandate

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than 627 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in the United States since December 2020, according to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

COVID-19 vaccines have been deemed safe and effective, having been evaluated in tens of thousands of participants in clinical trials and meeting the Food and Drug Administration’s scientific standards for safety, effectiveness and manufacturing quality needed to support emergency use authorization.

“COVID-19 vaccines have undergone — and will continue to undergo — the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history,” according to the CDC. “Evidence from the hundreds of millions of COVID-19 vaccines already administered in the United States, and the billions of vaccines administered globally, demonstrates that they are safe and effective.”
