CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Providing a fast and reliable internet connection in rural West Virginia isn’t cheap — a reason many communities may apply for one of the grants that the West Virginia Broadband Enhancement Council received updates on Thursday.
Four broadband expansion programs — two from the Appalachian Regional Commission, two from the U.S. Department of Agriculture — have an application deadline at some point in the next few months, Kelly Workman, project development manager at the state Development Office, told council members.
Application requirements for each vary, but the purpose of all the programs is to help communities struggling to obtain quality connection speeds.
