MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  — Elvis Presley died Aug. 16, 1977, and what keeps him alive today for many fans is his “regular guy” appeal that persisted — even through the Las Vegas glitz of his later years.

Several of those fans responded to call from The Dominion Post for their Elvis memories.

“Nobody did anything like him,” said Marianne Selensky, an Elvis fan from Morgantown. “He was different.”

To this day, she’ll pop in “Blue Hawaii,” one of her favorite Elvis movies, and just watch.

While she has a collection of Elvis movies and the standard Presley memorabilia line-up of dinner plates and the like, she enjoys the memory of touring Graceland more. She liked the Jungle Room, and kitchen once stocked with regular-guy food.

“I’m glad they left it the same,” she said. “It felt like he was still there.”
