West Virginia aircraft from the 167th Airlift Wing assisting ongoing operations in Afghanistan

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — On Wednesday, an official post on Facebook by Lt. Gen. Michael A. Loh, current director of the Air National Guard, was shared, including a photo which showed a West Virginia Air National Guard C-17 Globemaster lll aircraft from the 167th Airlift Wing, crewed by active-duty airmen, according to the official post.

According to the official statement by Loh, the aircraft, which carried Afghanistan evacuees, arrived at Naval Air Station Sigonella on Aug. 22.

NAS Sigonella is currently supporting the Department of Defense’s mission to facilitate the safe departure and relocation of U.S. citizens, Special Immigration Visa recipients and vulnerable Afghan populations from Afghanistan, the post stated.

After attempts by The Journal to call the 167th Air National Guard, as well as the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, neither organization could release additional information regarding the specific airwing operations of the 167th…
