CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s an old axiom in politics: “Follow the money.” That’s good advice for West Virginia voters when deciding whom to vote for in the state Supreme Court election May 10.
As the Gazette-Mail reported April 28 in a story by David Gutman, groups independent of the candidates have spent more than $1.1 million on the race, more than triple what the race’s five candidates have raised.
One outside group, the Republican State Leadership Committee, is a national group that spends heavily on state-level races to get Republicans elected. It has spent $600,000 in advertisements attacking the notorious Darrell McGraw, who served one controversial 12-year term on the court after being elected in 1976.
