Money, resources must be found for drug treatment

BECKLEY, W.Va. — As has been said many times before, there is hardly anyone in southern West Virginia who has not been touched by drug addiction. It’s become so commonplace that some addicts are written off, left to fend for themselves.

But the Sunday-Monday articles by Wendy Holdren tell a different story — that of a recovering addict who has gotten the support he needs from his family, but still is struggling to stay away from the pills that destroyed his life.

We’re not going out on a limb to say that the story of Elvis Kirkendall of Wyoming County is not all that different from so many others who have followed the path into addiction.
