Are the country’s political parties splintering?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Last week, Republicans — though some reluctantly so — united to officially name Donald Trump as the party’s presidential nominee.

This week, Democrats are expected to throw their support behind former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who edged the popular Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-identified socialist, in a hard-fought primary season.

But just because each party has its nominee doesn’t mean smooth sailing until November…
