Warm coats offered from Huntington utility poles

Though 23-year-old Toni Black succumbed to cancer in April 2012, her loving spirit lives on as Team Toni – a group of supporters now doing charitable work – continues its anonymous coat giveaway.

With more than 50 coats distributed since Monday night, Team Toni, a Chesapeake, Ohio, nonprofit organization founded in 2011, said the operation reflects Black’s passion for the homeless, lonely and elderly.

Coats were primarily posted near Harmony House, in the 600 block of 4th Avenue, Monday night and included 10 brand-new children’s coats donated to Goodwill Industries. Not seeking personal publicity, an anonymous Team Toni organizer said about 40 coats would be posted along Hal Greer Boulevard on Tuesday night.

Plans to expand the donations into Charleston and Portsmouth, Ohio, are in the works…
