W.Va. legislature now live-streaming on web

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia state legislature took a major leap into the 21st Century on Wednesday by live-streaming the state senate session.

“We had a test run on Monday,” Howard Wellman, senate sergeant-at-arms said. He added that the first session would be aired on Wednesday.

“Just go to the state legislature’s web site (www.legis.state.wv.us/) and click on the senate under the live video stream.”

During his acceptance speech after being selected Senate President, Bill Cole, R-Mercer, said: “I believe that a good government starts with a transparent government.”

Cole thanked his predecessor, State Senator Jeff Kessler, D-Marshall, Minority Leader, for starting the process of installing the cameras, and said at the time that the complete streaming of the sessions should begin by mid-session.

“We only have one camera operating, and hopefully, in the next week or two, more cameras will come online…
