BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Forty-five years after Ronald McCormick was killed in combat in Vietnam, the McCormick family heard more about what happened that fateful day.
McCormick’s sister, Pamela Jeffers, said the memorial service conducted by the 336th Assault Helicopter Company Sunday helped to answer a lot of old questions for the family.
“It was amazing,” Jeffers said. “It was beautiful. It was a beautiful memory of him. I was really shocked when I first heard about it, when they first started contacting us.
“I was utterly amazed, but it also answers a lot of questions because we didn’t know what happened that night other than his copter was shot down,” she added. “A lot of these guys served with him, so they have their stories and their memories of him.”
The service brought Jeffers to tears, she said.
“For the longest time after he died I didn’t believe he was gone,” Jeffers said, adding that she and her brother were very close and she was only 15 at the time of his death…
