Sprint affiliate to buy nTelos wireless

BECKLEY, W.Va. — About 120,000 nTelos customers in West Virginia will soon be served by Sprint as Shenandoah Telecommunications Co. (Shentel) acquires nTelos Holdings Corp.

Willy Pirtle, vice president of Wireless for Shentel, said current nTelos customers will not notice a change in their rates or service plan; however, customers will soon be serviced by the Sprint brand.

 Shentel is a Sprint affiliate and has exclusive rights to provide Sprint wireless service in their coverage area.

West Virginia customers are many of the 298,000 customers across portions of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky who will be affected by the change.

In addition to the acquisition, Shentel plan to invest $300 million to expand its wireless network. Of that, Pirtle said $160 million will be used to provide 4G LTE service in areas currently served by nTelos, including $26 million to expand wireless coverage just in West Virginia.

As part of the expansion, Shentel will add an additional 150 coverage sites, which will provide an enhanced and more complete network for Sprint customers. In addition, existing nTelos customers will have access to service plans and handset options currently offered by Sprint…
