Site sought for another WV gas-fired power plant

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Moundsville Power LLC, the company behind the proposed 549-megawatt-capacity natural-gas-fired power plant in Marshall County, is looking to expand to a second location.

“There’s just an ocean of natural gas sitting under West Virginia,” said Andy Dorn, partner for Moundsville Power. “What we’re doing over in Moundsville is we’re converting gas molecules into electrons, and we think there’s an opportunity to do that around the state.

 “In the next six months, we hope to start on another site.”

With construction on the $615 million Marshall County plant about to get underway, Moundsville Power LLC has begun the process of looking for a new location, Dorn said.

This month, Dorn and other officials met with Harrison County Commissioner Ron Watson to discuss possible sites in the county.

Watson said his meeting with the company officials went well.
