Plans double for Barboursville retail development

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Plans for the development of Tanyard Station in Barboursville have doubled in size.

A proposal to establish a tax increment financing, or TIF, district at Tanyard Station, located on the 50-acre site of the former CSX railroad yard off Interstate 64’s Exit 20 along the Mud River and Tanyard Branch Creek in Barboursville, was first brought to the Cabell County Commission in December and was later approved. At that time, proposed plans included the development of 200,000 square feet of retail space, but the developers have expanded the proposal to 400,000 square feet because they say there is increased interest.

Cabell County commissioners approved a resolution Thursday during their regular meeting to increase the bond limit from $6 million to $9 million for the Tanyard Station TIF district.

TIF funding allows additional property tax money generated from increased property value in the district to be used to fund improvements in that district…
