Nearly 90 arrested in North Central W.Va. drug bust

As of Tuesday evening, 70 individuals had been arrested, according to Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker, who chairs the task force control board. No incidents had been reported during the arrests.

Forty-seven suspects were wanted on state warrants, while 40 were wanted on federal charges, according to U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II.

Heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine, oxycodone, morphine, tramadol, buprenorphine and marijuana were among drugs involved, and some of the investigations leading to the warrants and arrests lasted years, according to two other task force control board members who declined to be identified and a review of court records.

But the majority — 46 cases — involved heroin, according to Ihlenfeld.

“Heroin continues to be the No. 1 problem” for federal law enforcement, the U.S. attorney said. He added that “the number of people in West Virginia dying from heroin is staggering…
