National chiefs’ group honors Lewisburg officers

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — In a city council chamber filled with proud family members and colleagues, three Lewisburg Police officers were recognized Tuesday evening for their courage in a confrontation with father-and-son murder suspects on New Year’s Day.

Chief/Chaplain Jack L Rinchich, president of the National Association of Chiefs of Police, presented a Silver Star for Bravery from his organization to each of the three officers — Lt. Jeromy Dove, Cpl. Mike Arbaugh and Patrolman Nicholas Sams.

 Rinchich noted that after the officers were nominated for recognition, the association’s board unanimously voted to confer the Silver Star on each man. The officers also received plaques describing the award, along with a lapel pin and bar to be worn on their uniforms.

Addressing Dove, the senior officer among those honored, Rinchich said, “You have been an example of leadership to these young men.”

The National Association of Chiefs of Police maintains the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum in Titusville, Fla., and provides benefits for fallen officers and their families.

The three officers were also honored Tuesday by the Lewisburg Police Department. Chief Tim Stover presented each man with a commendation award for “exceptionally meritorious service.”
