Morgantown team to be a Pirates affiliate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Eldon Callen shook his head in amazement as he stared out at a packed Coliseum classroom on Aug. 25.

Yet the day has finally arrived.

The New York-Penn League made it official Aug. 25, announcing that the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jammers franchise will move to Morgantown and begin play next summer as a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate.

“This is a very historic occasion,” WVU athletic director Oliver Luck said. “Morgantown and the larger North-Central West Virginia community are so excited to have a new member in our community.”

The New York-Penn League is a Class A rookie league whose teams’ rosters are composed primarily of college players selected in the June first-year player draft…
