Marshall’s Johnson received his Christmas gift

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Marshall University running back Devon Johnson wanted one last Christmas gift wrapped in green.

Johnson missed most of the season because of an unspecified injury and wanted one more chance to take the field with his Marshall football teammates and one last opportunity to play for the Thundering Herd faithful.

The senior got that opportunity Saturday in Marshall’s 16-10 victory against Connecticut in the St. Petersburg Bowl in domed Tropicana Field.

“They limited me a bit,” Johnson said. “I only had 10 contact plays and, after that, they took me out and that was it, but it was just amazing to be able to get back out there and play in front of Herd fans and for this team one last time to finish up my college career.”

Marshall head coach Doc Holliday had said previously that Johnson would not play…
