Landau explores rap genre along with son, others

LOGAN, W.Va. — Logan County’s famed recording artist, winner of America’s Got Talent Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. has begun a new musical undertaking marked by the artist’s eye toward positivity.

While many people may recognize Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. as being associated with great American classics originally crooned by Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, the artist also recently exploring other musical roots in the rap genre.

Landau Murphy’s move to rap is not new for the artist, but he added, “It’s a new light for people to see me in.”

The artist’s new rap song, “Baby I’m a Star” was recorded with his son, Marcus Murphy, 2wop Dinero and local recording artist Josh Lucas.

Landau Murphy explained the song focuses on bringing a positive message about West Virginia to people across the world.

“Whatever your dream is…you should be living it,” Landau Murphy explained.

Lucas added, “We want to open doors up and start a new thing here. We want to give everybody a hope and show them dreams can come true.”

The video for “Baby I’m a Star” was recently uploaded to YouTube, and the group noted they planned to keep new music rolling out a steady pace.

During a recent interview conducted on Facebook Live by the Logan Banner, Landau Murphy, Marcus Murphy and Lucas gave a live, on the spot performance of their new song.

The group explained this is the beginning of a new movement to highlight the area’s musical talent and noted fans could expect a steady stream of releases.
