Fresh snow coats WV ski resorts in final month

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — If anybody could use an extra February Leap Year day, and another snowy blast from old man winter it is West Virginia’s ski areas, and by golly, their wishes have come true.

West Virginia’s five downhill ski resorts, which will be open through mid-March, weather depending, have all been coated with fresh powder and thanks to a Leap Year, get an extra February day piled onto this weekend on Monday.

Around the Mountain State, the closest ski resort to Huntington (about 2 1/2 hours away), Winterplace, located just south of Beckley off Interstate 77, just got a fresh dump of four inches of snow on their 27 slopes.

And that has been the case around the state, as the highest resort at 4,848-feet in elevation, Snowshoe Mountain has chalked up 14 inches of fresh snow this week…
