Ex-wrestling champ now on Fairmont legal mat

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — After winning a state title in wrestling, Matt Delligatti transitioned himself into politics and eventually law.

Growing up in Fairmont, Delligatti’s world was wrestling. He said his family — from uncles and cousins to brothers — all competed in the sport.

“I’m very proud and fortunate to have grown up in Fairmont,” Delligatti said. “I was around wrestling when I was 3 or 4 years old until I finished high school.”

During his freshman year at Fairmont Senior High School, Delligatti wrestled in the 215-pound weight class. He earned sixth place that year at the West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament, giving him a spot on the Class AAA All-State team.

Although it wasn’t a state win that year, Delligatti said it was memorable because his older brothers Jonathan and Anthony and his cousin Hunter had all qualified for the state tournament. To add to the family involvement, Delligatti’s uncle Mark was their coach…
