WVU students participate in a vigil for fellow student Sean Guthrie who fell on Sunday.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Members of the WVU and Greek communities gathered on Oct. 17 for a vigil for Sean Guthrie.
Guthrie was put on life support following a fall from the roof of the Kappa Alpha fraternity house early Oct. 16. WVU officials said the incident appears to be an accident and no foul play is expected.
Hundreds of students gathered at the Mountainlair Plaza for the candlelight vigil.
Both Sean’s parents, Michelle and Daniel, spoke. During their comments, and after, they spoke about how much Sean loved WVU and how he found a family and a home away from home.
“My son loved being here at WVU,” Daniel said. “It’s a place he found a sense of belonging and KA (Kappa Alpha) gave him a sense of brotherhood.”
Daniel also had a simple message and advice for the students in attendance.
“In memory of Sean, call you parents, call your siblings and let them know how much they mean to you.”
