WHEELING, W.Va. — Tragedy struck a local family Thursday as search and rescue divers recovered the body of an 8-year-old boy, about three hours after he fell into Big Wheeling Creek.
Emanual Williams reportedly was walking through the water with his sister and mother, Jackie Christopher, when he was knocked over and pulled under by a swift current. Christopher attempted to hold on to Williams, but could not, said Wheeling Deputy Police Chief Martin Kimball.
Wheeling police Sgt. Dave Gittings said Williams was pronounced dead at a local hospital after attempts to revive him.
Wheeling police received a call at 3:01 p.m. that Williams had fallen into the creek. Kimball said he was found just before 6 p.m., floating in the creek just below the surface in a pool that was nearly 20 feet deep…
