Prichard cargo facility set to start this month

PRICHARD, W.Va. — The long-sought Heartland Intermodal Gateway facility at the A. Michael Perry Industrial Park in Prichard is expected to begin transferring cargo from trains to trucks within two weeks, officials said Tuesday.

Del. Don Perdue, executive director of the Wayne County Economic Development Authority, said Parsec, the company hired to operate the $30 million facility, is in the final stages of equipment installation, ahead of the original construction deadline of December 2015.

“Parsec is putting in a scale they will use to weigh trucks and containers,” Perdue said. “Other than that, they are fixing some high and low spots on a large concrete pad and hooking up the gas, oil and air lines that are kept on site. It’s much more elaborate than I or anyone else thought it would be, I think.”
