MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Bake sales held at WVU on Tuesday, April 12, aimed to boost awareness of the pay gap between genders by offering baked goods at a reduced price for women.

Sugar cookies, brownies and other baked goods were sold at 70 cents for women and $1 for men to mark Equal Pay Day, a national public awareness event that began in 1996. According to the National Women’s Law Center, women in West Virginia earn about 70 cents for every dollar earned by men.

The WVU Council for Women’s Concerns, American Association of University Women and Center for Service and Learning hosted the bake sales.
