Mylan Park Foundation to fund Morgantown aquatic center

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown’s future $25 million-$30 million Mountaineer Aquatic and Track Center’s construction costs will be paid for by the Mylan Park Foundation, the site of the state-of-the-art recreation facility, according to Mylan Park board members.

Mylan Park will own the facility but will not benefit financially from it, he said. Fees from users — including WVU, public schools, and the general public — will pay for maintenance and upkeep. County Commission President Tom Bloom said half of the user costs will likely come from WVU.

It is also possible that a portion of the new hotel/motel tax will help fund the project, but that hasn’t yet been decided, the board members said.

Decisions about the 75,000-square-foot center are a collaborative effort between WVU, the Monongalia County Commission, Granville, Westover, Star City, Morgantown, the Mylan Park Foundation, the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors’ Bureau and the Monongalia County Board of Education…
