Marshall dietetics school celebrates new home

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Since Jamie Oliver sent the city on a food revolution in 2009, Huntington’s major players have carried the torch against the embarrassing title “America’s Unhealthiest City.”

Two of the city’s biggest institutions, Marshall University and Cabell Huntington Hospital, took a joint step in a healthy direction Thursday evening as the university officially moved its School of Dietetics into the hospital-owned Huntington’s Kitchen outreach center in Pullman Square.

“I think that the mission has come full circle,” Veronica Hordubay, manager of Huntington’s Kitchen, said following Thursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Jamie (Oliver) started us out. He told us we were awful; that we were the worst. Marshall University dietetics now tells you that we’ve progressed, and we’re going to progress more.”

Part of the College of Health Professions, 125 dietetics students will attend daily undergraduate and graduate classes either inside the facilities’ kitchen area or a more traditional classroom on the second floor…
