Long-awaited veterans’ clinic opens in Princeton

PRINCETON, W.Va. — More than 20 years of effort came to fruition Tuesday with the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of a veterans clinic in Mercer County.

The new Princeton VA Clinic at 1511 North Walker Street opened its door on June 8 in space provided by the VA Readjustment Counciling Service. An extension of the Beckley VA Medical Center, the new facility will offer access to primary care and telehealth services, VA officials said. The clinic can provide primary care services to 1,200 veterans. North Walker Street is also the new location of the Princeton Vet Center.

Local veterans advocate and Air Force veteran Al Hancock of Bluefield said he worked on the clinic project for 8,030 days or 22 years. After the ceremony, he thanked former U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Delegate John Shott, R-Mercer, for their help.
