Youths get an inside glimpse of Bluefield paper

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Local high school students learned Wednesday that newspapers are much more than printed paper these days.

Students from Graham and Bluefield High Schools visited the world of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph during the annual Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. The students spent much of the day touring local media outlets to learn how they serve the public.

Editor Samantha Perry greeted the visitors as they packed into the Daily Telegraph’s lobby, shot a photo, and directed them up to the newspaper’s third-floor conference room. Within minutes, the photograph was on the Daily Telegraph’s website. It was a demonstration of how print journalism had evolved to include more than paper editions. Copies of the magazine Prerogative were waiting for the guests, too.
