Young people’s conference aims for a better WV

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — There are many things created for young people in West Virginia, but Takeiya Smith, a student at West Virginia State University, is proud to be a part of the first conference created by young people for young people.

“I don’t think there has ever been anything like it done before,” said Smith, a co-chairman of the Young West Virginia Power Building Conference.

Young people ages 14 to 25 from across the state will converge on Marshall University Aug. 27 and 28 for the first-ever student-led conference, which will address voter engagement, racial justice, mental health, college readiness, LGBT advocacy and more.
